ACAP seminars and workshops available at JBM-HH
February 22, 2013
Looking to find a job, buy a home or put your finances in order?
The Army Career and Alumni Program, at Bldg. 404 on the Fort Myer portion of Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, has a class for that.
ACAP provides pre-separation counseling and a wide range of transition, job search and financial planning information for Soldiers, veterans, retirees, Department of the Army civilians and Family members.
"We do not find jobs for them," said Carlos Rodriguez, ACAP transition services manager. "We try to find resources for them to find jobs, to make it easier for them to find jobs."
ACAP moved into Bldg. 404 from Bldg. 230 in October 2012. Over the next several months, ACAP will offer numerous classes, including a federal resume workshop and how to find and apply for employment with the federal government, geared toward those who are transitioning or retiring from military service. In these classes, Rodriguez says servicemembers are given pointers on how to leverage their military occupational specialty and skill set into a civilian or private sector job.
"When we hold these classes, we cover not only how to find a job, but also how to get your finances together, to make sure you have your credit score straight, and how to buy a home," continued Rodriguez.
If you're thinking about starting your own business, the boots to business workshop is a good place to start. The two-day seminar gives participants the chance to come up with their own business plan and to see if being a business owner is right for them. If you already know you want to own a business, but want to purchase one that already has some name recognition, the two-hour business franchise opportunities seminar provides attendees with tips.
In addition, ACAP also provides several financial management workshops, including smart investments, credit scores from good to excellent, home buying, and debt free that will help you manage and even make your money grow.
Reservations are required to attend any of the classes. Spouses of transitioning servicemembers are also encouraged to attend. Call 703-696-0973 or sign up to take a class at www.acap.army.mil.
