FORT SILL, Okla.-- More than 40 signal 529th Signal Company Soldiers are performing pre-deployment Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) training at Fort Sill, as they prepare to deploy with 1st Battalion, 14th Field Artillery.

The 120-hour training will ensure the signal Soldiers are knowledgeable on all their communications equipment and are ready to provide excellent signal support during their mission.

The three weeks of training is on the satellite transportable terminal, and the command post and joint network nodes.

Focusing on these three areas of communication equipment enables the Soldiers of the 529th to provide seamless support for network operations.

Without the network support, units would be taken back to a time before the Internet, which to most would be a culture shock. To a deployed unit, this network support allows Soldiers to be more efficient and ensures information can flow to whoever needs it instantly, enabling commanders to accomplish their missions.

The Soldiers are being trained on the full spectrum of the systems from the basic setup and tear down, to include the in-depth programming of the equipment.

This training is facilitating the signal Soldiers to provide voice, data and live streaming video to units all over the world.

Having Communications-Electronics Command instructors from Fort Gordon, Ga., come down and teach this class ensures the Soldiers are receiving the most up-to-date training. The instructors are providing individual hands-on and classroom training.

"This training was a great refresher. I feel the instructors were very knowledgeable in their fields. I am more confident in my job after having these classes," said Sgt. Core Thompson.

"The CECOM instructors are great. I am getting much needed up-to-date WIN-T training to train my Soldiers and provide the best communications to my brigade," said Sgt. David Lunn.

All Soldiers must pass a certification test at the end of each week to earn their certificates.

Upcoming brigade training exercises will give the Soldiers an opportunity to test out their new skills.
