This morning, the Secretary of Defense notified Congress that all DoD
Civilian employees will receive notification of a possible furlough. This
includes the Civilian workforce at Fort Huachuca.
This is a procedural step at this point. If the budget situation is not
resolved by March 1, and a furlough is necessary, notification to Congress
must take place now in order to allow for 22 days of furlough by the end of
this fiscal year.
Many facts surrounding our fiscal reality are beyond our control and there
is much I don't know right now, but I am committed to communicating how
these facts and any resulting changes impact you and those we serve. What I
do know right now is that a furlough is not projected to take place until
late April and should it occur, will most likely take the form of a
32-hour/four day work week.
The Nation is facing a fiscal crisis, and it is clear we will feel the
impact. Tough choices will have to be made and we must plan for worst case
scenarios now.
