Col. John D. Kuenzli, commander, 402nd Army Field Support Brigade, received the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal Jan. 17, at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, for service with NATO in relation to the International Security Assistance Force operation from Aug. 23, 2012, to Oct. 1, 2012.

The ceremony was unique, as the orders were read in French and English, the two official languages of NATO. Staff Sgt. Jules Noubi, noncommissioned officer in charge, 349th Combat Support Hospital Operating Room at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, read the orders in French.

Shortly after assuming command of the 402nd AFSB in Kuwait on July 16, 2012, Kuenzli was sent to Bagram, Afghanistan, to take on additional duties as the 401st AFSB commander. While in Afghanistan, Kuenzli served as commander of both the 401st and 402nd AFSBs.
