YANGJU, Republic of Korea (Feb. 4, 2012) -- Representatives from U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan, South Korea, met with the 218th Homeland Reserve Regiment of Republic of Korea Army, in order to ensure the safety and security of Yongsan Garrison, Jan. 31.

The 218th Homeland Reserve Regiment, or HRR, is a vital part of Capital Defense Command, and whose foremost mission is to defend Seoul, is responsible for the defense of Yongsan area in some urgent circumstances, such as enemy infiltration, threats, and attack.

As the regiment plays an important role in the security of Yongsan Garrison, Col. Michael E. Masley, garrison commander for USAG Yongsan, and his Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security team shared their thoughts and plans with the Republic of Korea Army counterparts.

Upon their arrival, they were given a brief tour of the regiment and further discussed the security of Yongsan.

"It is always special to actually meet and work with the strongest alliance in the world," Masley said. "Today, I have learned many new things, concerns and answers too. Thank you all for your constructive suggestions, and I am more confident than ever that we can successfully cope with potential danger or threats."

Both sides shared their opinions and recommendations regarding the improvement for the garrison's security. At the end of the conference, they reached a consensus that close cooperation between two sides is a key for an impeccable security.

"I understand that cooperation between USAG Yongsan and the 218th HRR is essential, and we have shown a close collaboration," said Col. Kim Jong Kyu, commander for 218th HRR. "But I also know that there is still room for improvement. We will strive for an even better cooperation system by, for example, setting up a systematic communicating channel."

After the conference, both sides enjoyed lunch together to celebrate the lasting friendship between the two nations.
