CAMP CASEY, South Korea (Jan. 22, 2013) -- American and South Korean troops joined the Commander-in-Chief Ball in Washington, D.C. via satellite from here, today.
Lt. Col. Shawn Creamer, the "Manchu" commander of the 2-9th Infantry, congratulated President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden at the start of their second term in office.
"On behalf of the 28,500 service members and their families of United States Forces Korea, Eighth Army and 2nd Infantry Division, we want to congratulate you and the president on your second inauguration," said Creamer, a native of Hubertus, Wis.
In a show of alliance solidarity, Creamer was joined by Republic of Korea, or ROK, Army Col. Pyo Se-woo, commander of the 102nd Regiment, 17th Infantry Division, as well as U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force and Korean Augmentation to the U.S. Army troops from across the Korean Peninsula.
"On behalf of the Republic of Korea Armed Forces, I'd like to congratulate you and the president on this special day of celebration," said Col. Pyo Se-woo, who is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. "We all know that for the last 60 years the ROK and U.S. alliance has been a solid foundation for the peace and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula."
The troops stood in front of an Apache attack helicopter, a tank and a Multiple Launch Rocket System as they talked with the vice president via satellite.
During the broadcast, Creamer invited the vice president to visit U.S. service members in Korea.
U.S. troops from Afghanistan and Okinawa also took part in the historic occasion.
