REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. -- The Army Materiel Command and the Security Assistance Command held a groundbreaking ceremony Dec. 17 for a cafeteria to feed its roughly 1,700 employees.

The cafeteria marks another milestone of AMC's commitment to the quality of life, USASAC commander Maj. Gen. Del Turner said. He referenced the headquarters and its state of the art technology as the first milestone and the recently added parade field, too.

"What today is all about is people," AMC commander Gen. Dennis Via said. "We want to make sure you have a place to share a meal, share a coffee with a co-worker and a place to relax."

The cafeteria will be a detached facility of about 4,100 square feet with a full service kitchen. Construction is expected to be completed by November.

Garrison commander Col. John Hamilton gave remarks thanking the senior leaders for their attendance and stating it represented their commitment to quality of life.

Via, deputy commander Lt. Gen. Patricia McQuistion, executive deputy John Nerger and Turner participated in the groundbreaking alongside Stephan Jones, Robin Warren, Ingrid Qualls and Marticia Banks-Booker representing the AMC and USASAC work force.
