PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Picatinny Arsenal hosted a 2008 Armed Forces Day observance for employees and invited guests here May 13.

During the ceremony\'s 45-minute program, the installation paid tribute to the men and women in uniform who serve in the armed forces.

The Honorable Robert J. Maguire, New Jersey civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army, served as the keynote speaker during the event.

Army civilian aides advise military leaders on public attitudes toward the Army. They work closely with installation commanders, state adjutant generals and other top military officials in their respective states.

Maguire was appointed to his post by then-Secretary of the Army Francis J. Harvey in 2006. Maguire is a retired Marine Corps Reserve officer who has maintained a keen interest and involvement in the military.

In addition to Maguire, U.S. Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen and Picatinny Commanding General Brig. Gen. William N. Phillips spoke during the ceremony.

A color guard from Seton Hall also participated in the ceremony, as did members of Helm's Company, second New Jersey Regiment of the Continental Line, who re-enacted members of the Continental Army during the American War for Independence.
