The Anniston Army Depot was selected as this year's Employer of the Year in the Large Business category by the Greater Calhoun County Area Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities.

The depot, located in Anniston, Ala., was honored at the committee's annual luncheon Oct. 24.

In 2001, the Anniston Army Depot Contracting Office first awarded an AbilityOne contract to the Opportunity Center -- Easter Seals for janitorial support services. The center has since provided support to Anniston Army Depot facilities through the use of various contractual instruments which include janitorial, administrative support, cemetery maintenance and laundry services.

"Employees with disabilities are no different than other individuals. They are simply good-hearted and extremely hardworking folks who seek an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and abilities when given a chance," said David J. Bunt, director of the contracting office.

"They do not necessarily want special treatment or recognition, but only wish to be treated with dignity and respect, as do we all."
