Veterans Day activities to be held across Central Savannah River Area

FORT GORDON, Ga (Nov.7, 2012) - Fort Gordon and the Central Savannah River area are honoring service members this Veterans Day weekend with a variety of events throughout the region.

Highlights include:

• Friday at 7:30 p.m., catch the musical production "War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of World War II" at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Art Center, located on the Evans Towne Center Blvd. in Evans, Ga.

• Saturday at 6 p.m., there is a Red White and Blue Veterans Day Celebration scheduled at the Evans Towne Center Park. The U.S. Army Signal Corps Band is scheduled to play and followed by fireworks at dusk.

• Monday at 9 a.m., The Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home of Augusta ceremony located at 15th Street is scheduled to have the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band present with color guard. Guest speaker is Maj. Gen. LaWarren V. Patterson, commanding general, U.S. Army Signal Center of Excellence and Fort Gordon.

• Monday at 10 a.m., The CSRA Veterans Day Parade follows on Broad Street with Patterson as the grand marshal with a Joint Service Color Guard and supporting military units marching in formation.

• Monday at 11 a.m., The North Augusta American Legion, Post 71, is scheduled to have a Veterans Day ceremony at the Wade Hampton Veteran's Park, located on Georgia Avenue, North Augusta. Guest speaker is Col. Robert A. Barker, Fort Gordon garrison commander.

• Also Monday at 11 a.m., a ceremony is scheduled at the All Wars Monument located at 4th and Broad Street in downtown Augusta. A Joint Service Color Guard, firing detail, and U.S. Army Signal Corps will be present. Patterson is the guest speaker for the event.

• Monday at 1 p.m., a ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Heroes' Overlook on 10th Street on the Riverwalk in downtown Augusta. The U.S. Army Signal Corps Band, a bugler, and firing detail will be present.
