FORT HOOD, Texas - Soldiers from across Fort Hood and the 41st Fires Brigade along with members of the local community came out the Course at Clear Creek on Fort Hood to help raise money for the fourth United States Field Artillery Association Rail Gunner Chapter Golf Tournament, Oct. 9, here, to raise money for the annual Saint Barbara's Day Ball.
The tournament had 33 four-man teams competing for prizes going to the top three teams, the longest drive, the longest putt made, and the closest the hole. The tournament kicked off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
The teams each scrambled to their respective starting holes and began the tournament. The day started out cloudy and overcast but the middle of the day the sky was clearing up thanks to the wind.
"We were able to shoot eight under despite the wind today," said 1st Lt. Kyle Williams, 589th Brigade Support Battalion.
First place team won with a score of 61, while second place came in with a score of 62 and third finished with 64. The first place team members were Staff Sgt. Franklin McDonald, Spc. Andrew Pape, Spc. John Smith, and Spc. James Williams, all are part of Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 41st Fires Brigade.
Other prizes were given to Spc. Hernandez for getting closest to the hole on hole 5, the longest drive was hit by Nate Williams at hole 8 and the longest putt was made by Robert Harring at hole 9.
"All in all it was a great day and it was great to walk away with a victory," said Staff Sgt. Franklin McDonald, noncommissioned officer in charge of the brigade legal section, HHB, 41st Fires Bde.
