FORT STEWART, Ga. - For many members of the Marne and local community, Club Stewart was the place to be for the 2012 Coastal Georgia Combined Federal Campaign kickoff at Fort Stewart, Sept. 18.

The CFC program collects donations in an effort to help Families in need. According to their website, the mission of the CFC is to promote and support philanthropy through a program that is employee-focused, cost efficient and effective in providing all federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life for all.

This year's CFC Campaign Chairman for the local area, Edward Tarver, shared that donating to local, regional, national and international agencies can help those in need and make a significant impact on the lives of people around the world.

At the kickoff event, the Directorate of Emergency Services presented the CFC campaign with a check donation in the amount of $1,000 for the Special Olympics, Georgia Chapter.

"The check donation is for the CFC Special Olympics, the Georgia Chapter," said James Hackney, DES. "We raise money for organizations for donations such as this. The Special Olympics has a lot of law enforcement agencies tied with Special Olympics."

The Special Olympics was just one of many organizations that receive donations from CFC. At the event, the American Cancer Society, Good Will, American Red Cross, Home School Foundation, Fraser Counseling Center, March of Dimes, YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Wreaths for Warriors Walk, American Diabetes Association and Rape Crisis Center of the Coastal Empire are just a hand full of agencies that were available at the kickoff.

Both the Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield Garrison Commander Col. Kevin Gregory and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. Louis Felicioni were at the event. Command Sergeant Major Felicioni reflected on the importance to contribute to CFC.

"Donating to CFC is an opportunity for Soldiers to give to others," he said. "We are one big Family. There are so many people in need, and there are so many good charities out there . . . I've already made a list of all kinds of different organizations that I not only want to donate money but time.[The community] should come out here to Fort Stewart, see the people, see the passion, donate and help others."

Following the check presentation, guests were invited to partake in cake, savory food delicacies and beverages.
