REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (Sept. 18, 2012) -- The Army Materiel Command hosted logistics leaders from around the Army during the kick off for a Global Logistics Concept Workshop here today.
The workshop is the first of several follow-on initiatives resulting from the Sept. 8 discussion between the Chief of Staff of the Army and senior leaders regarding the shaping of Army logistics to support the Joint Force of 2020.
During opening remarks to the workshop Lt. Gen. Patricia E. McQuistion, AMC Deputy Commander stated that some of the best minds in logistics are in attendance and then challenged the group to refine their way of doing business.
"We have to take the best of everything we have done over the last 11 years and refine it during this workshop," said McQuistion. "I want you to go back through all of the changes that have occurred in joint logistics over the past, not to fight the last war and current operations but to propel and project us into the future."
The purpose of the workshop is to obtain CSA guidance and approval of proposed methodology and approach to developing the Global Logistics Concept for Army 2020.
Maj. Gen. Gustave F. Perna, AMC Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics/Operations, briefed the CSA in Washington D.C. prior to the workshop and shared some insight into what the workshop needs to achieve.
"This is about taking logistics to the next level," said Perna. "We have to integrate and align with joint capabilities. We need to figure out how to be the ones that the Navy, the Air Force and the Marines call first."
The U.S. Army Materiel Command is the Army's premier provider of materiel readiness -- technology, acquisition support, materiel development, logistics power projection, and sustainment -- to the total force, across the spectrum of joint military operations. If a Soldier shoots it, drives it, flies it, wears it, communicates with it or eats it, AMC provides it.
