PRESIDIO OF MONTEREY, Calif. -- The Air Force's 311th and 314th Training Squadrons went head to head during the Air Combat Challenge event at Soldier Field Aug. 31.

For the second time in the past year, athletes from the two training squads that comprise the Air Force's 517th Training Group came together to compete in a series of physical challenges such as pull ups, C-17 airplane tire flipping and tug-of-war challenges.

According to 311th team captain Tech. Sgt. Alan Vong, the event was designed to promote fitness, enhance morale and increase unit pride.

With almost the entirety of the roughly 1,300 airmen stationed at the Presidio in attendance, along with family members and some curious onlookers, the stands at Soldier Field were crowded with spectators.

At the conclusion of the event, medals were presented by Col. Laura Ryan, 517th TRG commanding officer.

The 314th received medals for the best male team and best female team. Airman 1st Class Jacob Gaudio was presented the medal for best male athlete. Airman Kendra Jones won the medal for best female athlete. The 314th Training Squadron also claimed top honors as the overall winning team.
