YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- To help the Community stay active, U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan introduced various events, programs, and activities to members of the garrison. Community members were given the opportunity to sign up for them at the Garrison Sign-up Day, which was held at the Collier Community Fitness Center, Sept. 9.

As Community members stopped by the booths and talked to representatives, they were supplied with all of the information necessary to get connected to the several programs USAG Yongsan offered to its members.

Col. Michael E. Masley, garrison commander for USAG Yongsan, emphasized the importance of the Garrison Sign-Up Day and recommended Community members to be active, be involved, and to blend in.

"There is no reason for somebody to come in to work on Monday and say 'I'm bored. I've got nothing to do on weekends,'" Masley said. "There are literally hundreds of events taking place in the Community. We wanted to give the Community the opportunity to see all the activities that are out there."

A Total of 56 organizations were invited to set up their booths and put out information to Servicemembers and Families to find out about the great programs that USAG Yongsan had to offer.

To ensure that Community members were properly taken care of, the garrison provided activities and programs for all age groups. In addition, organizations such as the Dragon Hill Lodge, Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers (BOSS), Girl scouts, and Boy scouts introduced many off post tours, camps, and activities, giving Servicemembers and Families the prospect of discovering what Korea was like.

Stephanie Hargett, BOSS representative, was excited to be a part of the sign-up day because she understood the importance of the event. Hargett explained that she expected many people to show up, which would provide an opportunity for her to help out the USAG Yongsan Community.

"I think it is a really great idea," Hargett said. "We have different ways to provide information to people but this certainly is one of the best because people are able to come in and see what the Garrison offers all at once."

Emily Grace, welfare treasurer for the American Forces Spouses Club, was glad that she stopped by as she explored the opportunities that the garrison offered.

"There is no way I would have known about any of these, because it is hard to come across what organizations are here," Grace said. "This is a great way because all the organizations are sitting at one spot, and it is easier for people to see what's going on and decide what they want to do for the next few months."
