Anniston Munitions Center wins superior honors for community relations
April 18, 2008
The Anniston Defense Munitions Center received third place for community relations special events at the U.S. Army Worldwide Public Affairs Symposium on April 1 in McLean, Va.
Army Chief of Public Affairs Maj. Gen. Anthony Cucolo presented the award for excellence to ADMC Commander Lt. Col. Garry McClendon.
The award recognized the efforts and work of ADMC employees who participated in the annual Calhoun County's Chamber of Commerce Business Exposition in October 2007.
According to the justification, two key objectives were accomplished: "First, the citizens of Anniston had the opportunity to learn about the vision, mission, and functions of the munitions center and how it provides support directly and indirectly to the joint warfighter. Second, it gave ADMC employees a chance to showcase what they do for the warfighter which is a source of pride for the employees and the organization."
"For our organization to receive an award for Small Community Relations, it is just awesome," said McClendon. "Recognition by the U.S. Army for something like this reminds all of us how important it is to do your very best even in the little things."
