• SAN ANTONIO - Lt. Gen. William Caldwell IV inducts retired Col. Ernest John "Jack" Davis into the Order of St. George Medallion during a ceremony Aug. 15. The Order of St. George Medallion is the top award presented to members of the Army's mounted force by the U.S. Armor Association. Davis, 88, is one of the last remaining service members who served on horseback during WWII. During the ceremony, Caldwell, along with Col. Bill Hill II, inducted Davis at the Army Retirement Community auditorium. Davis began his career as an infantryman in the 10th Mountain Division and served 31 years, to include serving through WWII and the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Caldwell is the commanding general of U.S. Army North and senior commander of Fort Sam Houston and Camp Bullis. Hill is the chief of staff for U.S. Army South and was joined by his father, retired Col. Bill Hill.
