ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - More than 8,000 fans braved threatening skies and a short rainfall to go back in time with yester-year's leaders of popular rock - Boston, Kansas and Grand Funk Railroad -- during the Army Entertainment Concert at Shine Sports Field Aug. 11.

Guests included APG and CECOM commander Maj. Gen. Robert Ferrell; CECOM Command Sgt. Maj. Kennis Dent; Garrison Commander Col. Gregory McClinton and their wives and Garrison Command Sgt. Maj. James Ervin.

Fans clapped, danced and screamed throughout the performances as each group took over the stage. Grand Funk Railroad's timeless classic "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)" got noise to a fever pitch but Kansas might have drawn the loudest roar when they closed with "Carry On My Wayward Son." Boston followed with a string of hits, highlighted by "More than a Feeling," "Don't Look Back," and "Amanda."

Fans said they couldn't get enough.

"It's wonderful, all I want is an autograph," said Martha Poole, a retired APG civilian who waved a Boston album and a miniature American flag throughout each performance. "I've had it for 30 years!" she said.

Chris Spencer from Kirk U.S. Army Health Clinic said he's been a fan of Kansas since he saw them in Knoxville, Tenn.

"I loved the show but especially Kansas because they're old school," he said.

"It rocked," said Mike Kozak, an ECBC civilian adding that he's attended every APG concert since 2000. "I liked them all but my favorite was Kansas. They really rocked," he said

Hosted by Morale, Welfare and Recreation, the show's supporters included the Army I.AM.Strong campaign; Navy Federal Credit Union; Bud Light and the U.S. Army Installation Management Command.
