YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Mayor Hong, Mi-young of Bupyeong-gu and the staff of Bupyeong-gu Korean American Friendship Council (KAFC) visited U.S. Army Garrison (USAG) Yongsan for a farewell luncheon with Col. William P. Huber, garrison commander for USAG Yongsan, at Sables restaurant in the Dragon Hill Lodge, July 17.

Bupyeong-gu KAFC has built a close relationship with USAG Yongsan through ongoing discussions about returning the Camp Market area to the province and various cultural experiences such as the Bupyeong Pungmul Festival and the Korea-America Culture Exchange Event.

Hong, who has been working with Huber throughout her tenure as mayor, expressed her gratitude for Huber's contribution to both parties' partnership.

"In a few weeks, Col. Huber's Change of Command ceremony will be held and it makes me feel sorry, reminding me of an old proverb, 'Those who meet must part'," said Hong. "I'd like to show my gratitude for Huber's effort to solve many things that occurred in Bupyeong, especially Camp Market, and I hope to continue the friendly and developmental relationship we have had, and anticipate on strengthening it in the future."

Though Hong expressed regret over Huber's departure, she focused on the good things to come in the next chapter of Huber's life.

"To sum up, I would like to thank all the members that are present here today, and wish Huber the best of luck in the future."

Huber emphasized the importance of the special relationship that Yongsan Garrison and the Bupyeong KAFC share.

"We have become one of the greatest and strongest alliances in the world, and your support to U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan has been remarkable." said Huber. "I expected this to be an interesting job, but I hadn't expected it to be so rewarding."

He said that his journey in Korea couldn't have gone as well without the support and dedication of KAFC members.

"I must admit that I'm a bit overwhelmed by you all being here today, and there is no adequate way to show how grateful. All I can say is thank you."

Following remarks, Huber and Hong shared good-bye presents and the meeting ended with a meal shared by Garrison and Bupyeong-gu KAFC members.
