Sexual Harassment: America needs it to end
July 12, 2012
FORT STEWART, Ga. - Sexual Harassment is a re-occurring crime in America. The thing is that there are so many types of sexual harassment. Also, there are a lot of questions out there about sexual harassment such as; How does it make people feel? What does it do to people? Why does a person sexually harass another? What can we do about it?
There are a lot of different types of sexual harassment that should be taken seriously. One of the most common is verbal like talking to a girl/guy about their body parts in a sexual manner that is not pleasing to the victim. Then you have groping in the form of rubbing a body against someone else sexually. Also, asking for sexual favors in exchange for something else, as well as inappropriate touching.
Sexual harassment can make a person feel unsafe. They feel violated even if it's verbal. They become scared of the situation which gives the harasser power. They also began to feel vulnerable around other people. Most victims don't even want to be touched by another person.
It can also affect a person's life style. It changes their mind set. After they change their mind set, they change their environment. Victims may also change their attitudes. They also might become more distant.
Most people harass just for the fun of it. It doesn't just have to be heterosexual harassment, it can be homosexual harassment as well, like when you judge someone based off of their sexual preference. So let's all put an end to it.
If you are being sexually harassed at school don't hesitate to tell someone. I encourage all teens to put an end to sexual harassment. If you see it being done, then tell someone, don't be the one who watched it happen.
