The Army Sustainment Command at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill., bid farewell to 12 Army members during an afternoon award, retirement and retreat ceremony held June 28 on Constitution Square. The members -- nine Soldiers and three civilians -- were honored for their service to the command, the Army, and the nation.

The longest working retiree was Valerie Ruiz, a budget analyst, Resource Management, who began her federal career in 1974 as a summer aide/summer hire while still in high school. Remarks were given by Maj. Gen. Patricia E. McQuistion, ASC commanding general, and Sgt. Maj. Duane Strong, Distribution Management Center, served as the commander of troops.

Those who retired include: Department of the Army civilians Lauri Lartz, Valerie Ruiz, and Cannon Peppers; Soldiers were Chief Warrant Officer 5 Douglas Workman, 1st Sgt. Eric Evans, Sgt. 1st Class Michael Garcia, Sgt. 1st Class Shannon Stout, Sgt. 1st Class David Mellenthin, Sgt. 1st Class Bryan Hook, Sgt. 1st Class Roxy Trice, Sgt. 1st Class Terry Plunkett, and Sgt. 1st Class David Hanson.
