JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. (June 27, 2012) -- Veterans groups and Army supporters from Western Pennsylvania joined more than a thousand other audience members Wednesday evening to watch Soldiers of the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) perform to the sounds of The U.S. Army Band "Pershing's Own" during the "Twilight Tattoo" at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall.
Civilian Aide Emeritus to the Secretary of the Army from Western Pennsylvania, John Spisso and more than 100 other Pennsylvanians from the Armbrust Veterans Association, The Retired Enlisted Association (TREA) Chapter 98, Pennsylvania Patriot Guard Riders and Army supporters from Westmoreland county, Pa. were recognized for their patriotism and support of the Army during the performance by Maj. Gen. Michael S. Linnington, commanding general of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington.
"We all came on buses from Pennsylvania to see the show, and two of our groups were able to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns this afternoon," said Shirley Shallenberger, President of the TREA Auxillary. "TREA Chapter 98 and the Armbrust Veterans laid the first wreath and then the Pennsylvania Patriot Guard Riders laid another after us."
Civilian Aides such as Spisso provide individual advice to the Secretary of the Army, the Chief of Staff of the Army, and commanders at all levels on public sentiments toward the Army and work closely with all Army installations, commands, and other activities within their areas of responsibility.
"Twilight Tattoo" is a production of the U.S. Army Military District of Washington and is free and open to the public. It is scheduled every Wednesday night, rain or shine at Joint Base Myer - Henderson Hall (Fort Myer) during the summer through the end of August.
