McAlester city officials toured the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant (MCAAP) June 14 as part of the plant commander's quarterly Community Leader's Tour. Attending were Mayor Steve Harrison, City Manager Pete Stasiak, Councilmen Sam Mason, Weldon Smith and Travis Read. Col. Timothy Beckner is the commander of MCAAP.

The event included a briefing about the ammunition plant and tours of the 155mm Dual Purpose Improved Conventional Munitions artillery projectile, 155mm Excalibur projectile, the explosive laboratory, X-ray facility, 2,000 pound penetrator bombs and the missile maintenance facility.

"We received a very informative tour of the plant and got to see all the various operations and was very impressed," said Mayor Harrison.

"I was glad to be able to see some of the manufacturing process the ammunition plant employed. I enjoyed the visit and was appreciative of the opportunity to attend," said Smith.

McAlester Army Ammunition Plant is the Department of Defense's premier bomb and warhead loading facility and is one of 14 installations that belong to the Joint Munitions Command.
