Machak appointed acting deputy director at RDECOM

PICATINNY ARSENAL, N.J. - Barbara Machak,the executive director of the Enterprise and Systems Integration Center (ESIC) here, began a 120- day temporary assignment June 10 as the acting deputy director of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command at Aberdeen, Md.

The systems integration center is part of the Armament Research,Development and Engineering Center. Joseph Wienand, the former acting deputy director at RDECOM, returned to his position as technical director, Edgewood Chemical Biological Center.

GAINING INSIGHT

"I will have more insight as to what the headquarters is trying to do, what they need, and how we at the development engineering centers across the Army can better serve the warfighter," Machak said.

The Army appointed Machak to the Senior Executive Service (SES) in June 2010 when she became the Executive Director for ESIC. In her regular position, she is responsible for more than 600 people performing science and technology planning, business development, and management of knowledge and human capital.

In addition, her duties include maintaining and growing ARDEC's core competencies in program management, system engineering,and logistics research and engineering.

EXCITED FOR THE CHALLENGE

She oversaw the Joint Small Arms Program and Army Fuze Management Office. She coordinated the Army's armaments enterprise efforts with numerous Program Managers, Program Executive Offices, Defense Services, academia, and industry.

"I'm looking forward to the new area (Maryland). I anticipate a lot of work.I'm ready and excited for the challenge," Machak said.

"I have every intention of coming back to Picatinny. I will never forget where I come from. The workforce here has been extremely supportive," she said.

In Machak's absence, Kevin Hayes will serve as acting executive director of ESIC.

"He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in managing the diverse ARDEC technology portfolio, program management and building enhanced customer service," ARDEC Director Dr. Gerardo Melendez said in a message to employees.

"Kevin has integrated the collective capabilities of ARDEC to help assure integrated solutions for the warfighter."
