WARREN, Mich. - The Society of Automotive Engineers 2008 World Congress will take place April 14 to 17, 2008, at Cobo Center in Detroit. The U.S. Army Tank Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center National Automotive Center will be participating in various ways.

The Army needs systems that are versatile, deployable, upgradeable and focused on increased power and energy needs, so TARDEC/NAC's booth will focus primarily on one of their strategic thrust areas, Power and Energy. TARDEC/NAC will also participate in the industry luncheon sponsored by Automation Alley® with Gen. Benjamin S. Griffin, commanding general, Army Materiel Command, slated to be the keynote speaker and will be assisting with Gov. Jennifer Granholm's tour of SAE and presenting multiple military papers.

An important new event to be showcased at SAE 2008 World Congress is the first annual Advanced Planning Briefing for Academia. This event will take place April 15, 2008, in conjunction with the SAE World Congress at Cobo Center. APBA will help universities, colleges and academic institutions gain an understanding of TARDEC's ability to develop cooperative relationships with them that will advance and improve the technology that TARDEC provides to U.S. Soldiers.

The Army has a long-standing relationship with SAE displaying and presenting papers at events and participating in standards committees and recruiting young engineers. Through this partnership, SAE and the Army will continue to build ties between the automotive engineering community and the military to save Soldiers' lives.
