U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (LCMC) G4 director Arthur G. Dahl will be inducted into the Ordnance Hall of Fame at a ceremony to be held May 17 at Fort Lee, Va. Each year, nearly 100 people are nominated to be considered for membership in the Ordnance Hall of Fame, but only six are selected.

While some may be nominated more than once before actually being selected, Dahl was selected the first time he was nominated. To be eligible for consideration, nominees must either be at least 60 years of age, or retired from active duty for at least two years.

Dahl enlisted in the Army in 1984, shortly after graduating from high school. He said he grew up in a traditional military family and that this had a great deal of influence on his decision to enlist. "It was something I wanted to do for myself and for the country," he said.

Dahl's first assignment after completing his initial training was as a track vehicle repairer with the 3rd Corps Support Command, 588th Maintenance Company. His numerous assignments included overseas deployments to Bosnia-Herzegovina and Iraq. He also found time to continue his education and ultimately earned an MBA Degree from the University of Phoenix in 2002.

In 1997, he was assigned to the 43rd Area Support Group, as the ASG Group Officer at Fort Carson, Colorado. He set new standards and records for battalion and task force level operations, as well as being commended for saving the battalion over 1.4 million dollars during his tenure. While he was assigned to the 11th Signal Brigade as the Brigade Maintenance Technician Officer, beginning in 2000, he is credited with maintaining the brigade's operational readiness rate at 94 percent.

Dahl is no stranger to TACOM, having been selected as the Senior Staff Logistics Officer/Advisor to the Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) Commanding General in 2003, due to his recognized abilities. He also worked with the TACOM G3 Current Operations Section to refine the mining of LOGSA maintenance data in order to develop an automated picture of both unit readiness and system/platform reliability issues. Dahl was so well-respected that he was selected as the only military member on the Expedited Modernization Initiative Program (EMIP) at TACOM. He served here at TACOM until 2008.

Dahl's final assignment was at the Ordnance Center and School where he served as the Sixth Regimental Chief Warrant Officer. He was the principal advisor to the Chief of Ordnance on all matters pertaining to Ordnance Warrant Officers. He said that, if he had to pick one assignment during his career as most challenging and rewarding, it would be this one because of the impact that his leadership could have on the development of current and future warrant officers.

Immediately following his retirement from active service in 2010, Dahl was selected to head up the newly established G4 here at TACOM. He currently has a staff of ten people, serving in the areas of logistics, engineering, and environmental issues. He says that leading civilians is a very different experience than leading soldiers, but he sees it as an opportunity for personal and professional growth.

Finally, Dahl summed up his feelings about his selection to be in the Ordnance Hall of Fame by saying: "What a great honor that it is to me to be able to take that medal in May and put it around my neck and know the significance that, hopefully, I provided to the Army and to the Ordnance Corps and to the soldiers that I served with."
