Coupon Mania coming to JBM-HH commissary

Couponing has become one source for saving money when shopping for groceries. The Defense Commissary Agency has commissary stores in 13 countries and earns more than $2 billion in annual sales. DeCA statistics show that a Family of four can save up to $3,300 per year just by shopping at their local commissary rather than shopping in their neighborhood grocery store.

The commissary on Joint Myer Base-Henderson Hall is no different offering a variety of groceries at affordable prices.

"Our objective is to boost the quality of life by providing a safe and secure shopping environment," said Nancy Mitchell, JBM-HH commissary store director.

With a maximum of three food inspectors per store, DeCA tests all food that is brought into the commissary. There are weekly inspections to ensure that military Families shopping on base eat safely and healthily. With finances tight in most homes nowadays, the commissary participates in Coupon Mania.

Coupon Mania is a contest held throughout the year at the commissary. The objective for the customer is to shop in the commissary using as many coupons as possible in one shopping trip. At the completion of the event, the customer who shopped at the commissary and used the most coupons is awarded first place and receives a gift card to the commissary for $250.

From May 3 through 6, the JBM-HH commissary will be hosting its Coupon Mania and case lot sale; the festivities begin at 9 a.m. each day. Appearances will be made by the JBM-HH Fire Department and Army and Air Force Exchange wine tasting. During the event, there will be raffle drawings every 15 minutes. Prizes include grills, bikes, deep freezers and gift cards in the amount of $25 to use to shop at the commissary. Rules for the Coupon Mania can be found at the commissary customer service desk. The case lot sale is discounted bulk items on sale for a cheaper price.

"The case lot sale is successful, because of the savings. Families can save up to 50 percent on select items," said Stephanie Guel, grocery manager.

Weekly specials run daily at the local commissary, which accepts all manufacture and Internet coupons. For more information on local events or daily specials, call 703-696-3674.
