Washington DC (April 11, 2012) -- First Lady, Michelle Obama took time to meet military and civilian representatives following a White House event marking the anniversary of her "Joining Forces" program.

The initiative is designed to honor U.S. troops and their families, particularly by helping find employment for veterans returning from war.

Appearing on the "Colbert Show," later that evening, Mrs. Obama told host Stephen Colbert that employers are hiring veterans and finding flexible opportunities for spouses and that unemployment among veterans is declining.

Mrs. Obama began the program a year ago with Jill Biden, the vice president's wife.
