YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Itaewon is a city district, in Yongsan-gu, Seoul. Many restaurants serving international dishes and major hotels can be found here as well as dozens of shops and services aimed at tourists. Most importantly, it is the most frequently visited area by U.S. Soldiers stationed at the U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan.

Itaewon Tourist Association, established by CEOs of shops at Itaewon, controls and organizes events in the district. Many of the festivals and events are geared toward attracting Soldiers and their Families. To enhance the quality of life of service members and and strengthen their relationship, members of the Garrison and Itaewon Tourist Association had a luncheon at Itaewon's Hamilton Hotel, March 22.

USAG Yongsan Commander Col. William P. Huber attended the meeting and made remarks about the mutual interests they share, and his hopes for continuing the partnership.

"We share mutual interest in providing a safe and healthy environment for our Service members as well as supporting the development and the prosperity of Itaewon today," said Huber. "I really appreciate the Tourist Association's leadership in involving and incorporating the U.S. Army in Yongsan. Just yesterday Yongsan Soldiers helped clean up Itaewon. I am looking forward to our future together."

Both parties discussed and promised active cooperation on upcoming events in Itaewon such as the Itaewon International Festival and concluded the meeting by sharing a meal.
