YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- Soldiers got down and dirty to clean up the streets of Itaewon with the help of Yongsan-gu government officials, members of the Itaewon Tourist Association, and the citizens of Itaewon, March 21.

More than 30 Soldiers from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan started their early morning mission with brooms in hand ready to handle their clean up mission.

"It was fun. It was good to get out there with Soldiers and Korean citizens partnering to clean up the area that is very frequented by international tourists," said Staff Sergeant Jacob Aguilar, NCOIC of the Directorate of Human Resources of USAG Yongsan. "It's always important to volunteer in the Community and offer our helping hand and show of support for all they do for us."

All the way from the Itaewon Fire Station to the Noksapyeong Subway Station, the clean up volunteer force didn't hesitate a second to sweep and pick up trash on the sidewalks of Itaewon's main road.

"I really do appreciate their effort," said Kwon Oh Sung, chief of administration and civil complaints of the City of Yongsan-gu. "They showed their willingness to help the Yongsan society. "Korean media tend to highlight U.S. Soldiers' misdemeanors only, but they actually help out the society in numerous ways."

The Good Neighbor Programs across the peninsula strengthen the Republic of Korea - United States Alliance through comprehensive programs that actively engage the local community, government, media, business, university, school, and military in order to provide public understanding and appreciation of the mission on the peninsula.
