YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan Commander Col. William P. Huber, Bupyeong-gu Mayor Hong, Mi-young and members of the Bupyeong-gu Korean American Friendship Council attended a luncheon at Bupyeong-gu, March. 20.

Hong delivered opening remarks, emphasizing cooperation and alliance.

"Almost 20 years has passed since the Bupyeong-gu KAFC was founded in1981. While two decades has passed, I really appreciate members of KAFC who have continued to enhance the Good Neighbor Partnership and especially Colonel William P. Huber who has a lot of interests in this Good Neighbor Program."

She then gave a warm welcome to Mark Abueg and Cecil Bell who became the newest members of KAFC. She also asked for the garrison's active cooperation in the environmental investigation near Camp Market.

"We expect that the residents' anxiety will be removed by conducing ROK-US co-research according to detected ingredients," Hong said. "We realized that there are various difficulties and processes, however I wish Colonel Huber to have interest in this investigation and request endeavor for figuring out the appropriate solution."

Huber gave remarks right after the mayor. He emphasized the importance of the special relationship that Yongsan Garrison and the Bupyeong KAFC share.

"Our prestigious council plays an important role in Korea, assuming responsibilities for governing Korean and America towards a better future of peace, prosperity, and promoting democracy," Huber said.

He then continued with his words of promise about active cooperation on the environmental research, saying that health and concerns of citizens living near Camp Market are important to him.

Both parties expressed a desire to strengthen relations and to keep working cooperatively. Following remarks, the meeting was concluded with a meal shared by Garrison and Bupyeong-gu KAFC members.
