FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska - Friends and families filled the Alert Holding Area here March 13 waiting to reunite with their soldiers returning from a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan.

Many of those gathered to greet the returning soldiers of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, brought signs, banners, or balloons.

More than 4,000 soldiers of 1-25th deployed one year ago in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and today, about 200 came home, with the rest to follow in the coming weeks.

After a slight delay enroute, it was announced that the busses ferrying the long-anticipated soldiers from nearby Eielson Air Force Base had finally arrived at the AHA and the crowd
