ADELPHI, Md. -- Paul Akai, chief of information management in the Communications Directorate of the U.S. Army Garrison Adelphi Laboratory Center, was named the garrison's employee of the year for 2011.

"Paul provided outstanding support during the garrison's successful migration from local email to a new email system provided by the Defense Information Systems Agency," said Adelphi's Communications Director James LaPaglia. "He worked with the Network Enterprise Center staff to prepare for the migration, coordinated with the NEC to provide user training and online customized procedures for all Adelphi users, and created Garrison-specific migration procedures. His leadership throughout the migration process enabled the garrison to complete the migration on time."

Akai came to the garrison in February 2011 after 20 years as an Army civilian and contractor at Fort Shafter, Tripler Army Medical Center and Schofield Barracks, all in Hawaii. He is the garrison's first IMO, joining the Adelphi Communications Directorate that also includes Public Affairs and Visual Information.

Ollie Hicks of the Adelphi Directorate of Logistics motor pool was named employee of the quarter for the last quarter of 2011. She was recognized for her contributions to keeping the motor pool running smoothly, accountability of operators, and outstanding customer service, as evidenced by many positive ICE comments.
