With the prospects of winter rapidly fading, the 2012 Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall competitive distance running season is scheduled to begin with the Shamrock Shuffle on March 16.

The early morning 5K run and one mile walk begins at 6:35 a.m. and is the first of 12 long distance events in the 2012 JBM-HH Commander's Cup Race Series. Registration is still open and can be done from 5:30 to 6:15 a.m. at the start/finish line at the Fort Myer Fitness Center (Bldg. 414).

"Twenty five have registered at this point, but I'm sure we will reach 100," MWR's Brandon Lamberson said via email on March 7.

Free T-shirts will be given to the first 100 registered runners.

The course will feature the main thoroughfares of JBM-HH with Sheridan Avenue, Wainwright and McNair Roads hosting long straightaway segments of the race and the hair-pin turnaround and uphill climb below Whipple Field is still in play.

For more information on the 2012 Shamrock Shuffle or the race series, call 703-696-7867 or go to www.jbmhhmwr.com.
