ORLANDO, Fla. -- The 310th Expeditionary Sustainment Command was the last Army Reserve unit to leave Iraq at the end of 2011. "I got home at 2100 [9 p.m.] on Christmas Eve," said Command Sgt. Major Debbie Schroder.

Home by Christmas and now finishing up their mandatory Yellow Ribbon briefings, the 310th ESC out of Indianapolis, Ind., has come full circle in the mobilization-deployment-demobilization process. "I think it's good to come together again and reconnect," Schroder said.

Following the pattern of the Yellow Ribbon program, Soldiers of the 310th attended classes on the various benefits and issues regarding redeploying troops such as coming home and reintegration, suicide and domestic violence awareness and many service providers were standing by between sessions for the Soldiers to meet ask any questions they may have about their benefits.

The leadership of the 310th as well as their Soldiers enjoyed the opportunity to participate in the 81st RSC's Yellow Ribbon program. "We are delighted to be here in Orlando," said Brig. Gen. Don Cornett, Jr. The 310th commander was unwilling to release Soldiers, many cross-leveled from 15 states, back to their home units and the civilian world until he was sure all of them had the opportunity to get all the briefings and information they needed. "It's important that we don't just cut these [cross-leveled] Soldiers loose." Cornett said. "We have to take care of them too." In the past many cross-leveled Soldiers have been returned to their home units and didn't get the chance to go to Yellow Ribbon events. As the 310th ESC commander, Cornett had the ability to maintain positive control of all his troops to make sure no one was left out.

"This event afforded our Soldiers a relaxed, professional environment to obtain any assistance or clarification that they needed in regards to entitlements and benefits," said medical officer Capt. Veronica Pacheco. "And being held in a family friendly environment further emphasizes the Army's continued effort to support not only Reserve Component service members but also their families."
