RDECOM to host reception and participate in career fair at the 2008 BEYA Conference

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - The U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Materiel Command, will host a student welcome reception and participate in a career fair as part of the Black Engineer of the Year Awards STEM Global Competitive Conference Feb. 14-16 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

The BEYA Conference, co-hosted by the Council of Engineering at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, US Black Engineer & Information Technology Magazine and the Lockheed Martin Corporation, is designed to bring industry leaders and students together to provide networking and learning opportunities. The three-day conference will offer workshops, seminars and a career fair and will culminate with an awards gala honoring the achievements of African-American leaders in science, engineering and technology.

RDECOM will co-host a student welcome reception with the Department of Defense Friday, Feb. 14. Students will have the chance to participate in activities related to the RDECOM mission and hone their professional development skills.

RDECOM will also participate in the BEYA conference career fair Feb. 15 -16. During the career fair, middle school, high school and college students will have the opportunity to interact with human resource specialists and engineers from RDECOM centers throughout the country.

Yolanda Hinton, a mechanical engineer with RDECOM's Army Research Lab, will be honored by Maj. Gen. Fred D. Robinson Jr., RDECOM commander, during a "Special Tribute to Education" during the awards gala Friday night. In addition, RDECOM Command Sgt. Maj. Hector G. Marin will present Hinton with a Special Recognition Award at the HBCU Dean's Power Breakfast Feb. 16 for her work in community service.
