In January, over 170 Future Soldiers were sworn in during the half-time of a Charlotte Checkers Hockey game in Charlotte, NC. Charlotte Army Advisory Board member, Dr. Alan Freitag, retired Air Force Lt. Col. and University of North Carolina Charlotte professor conducted the swear- in ceremony. "This was a great event to showcase these outstanding young men and women to the Charlotte Community. I'm very pleased with our Future Soldier turnout," said Capt. Tim Page, commander of the Charlotte Recruiting Company.

"I am truly honored and privileged to be part of this evening," said Freitag prior to the swear in ceremony. "I wish each and every one of you great success."

Throughout the school year, the Charlotte Checkers mascot and team members conducted several school visits with Army recruiters. The team members drew student names for a "$10,000 Scholarship Shoot-out" during a Charlotte Checkers game.
