Happy 71st anniversary USO!
February 16, 2012
HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. - Hunter United Service Organizations volunteers celebrated the 71st USO anniversary, Feb. 5, at Truscott Air Terminal by providing refreshments to Soldiers from 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry Division, deploying to Afghanistan.
Approximately 100 volunteers from the USO send off deploying and redeploying Soldiers at Truscott Air Terminal at all hours of the day and night. Their tradition of service to the military began in 1941 with its support to American troops who worked out of log cabins, museums, barns, railroad sleeping cars and storefronts, to name a few locations.
The USO continues to adapt to meet the needs of troops and their Families, according to USO President Sloan Gibson.
"Our mission remains unchanged as does our steadfast focus on who we serve and why," he said. "We are all fortunate to be part of an organization with such a rich history and tradition, having a powerful impact on our men and women in uniform today, and committed to making an even greater difference in the future."
