REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. - The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command G6 staff members adopted a local family for Christmas.

The Chaneys - comprised of mom, Krystal, and son, KayCee, lost their husband and father, Spc. Cole Chaney, an Iraqi combat veteran, in 2008 during a permanent change of station move. Following additional hardships when their apartment flooded in June, they have now moved into on-post housing and are trying to replace the many items that were damaged.

Nearly everyone in G6 contributed with helping the family. They bought toys, DVDs, clothes, shoes and a new bicycle for KayCee, and clothes and appliances for Krystal. The items were presented to the family in a special party Dec. 16 at SMDC.

The staff members of G6 were made aware of the Chaneys following a Survivors Outreach Services event that took place at Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica's house in the spring. For more information on SOS, call (256) 876-5397.
