Army chief of staff chooses MICC CG for new assignment

FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas -- The Army chief of staff announced today that Brig. Gen. Stephen B. Leisenring, the commanding general of the Mission and Installation Contracting Command, has been selected for assignment as the deputy commander for the Joint Theater Support Contracting Command for Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Leisenring became the first commanding general of the MICC in November 2009.

Brig. Gen. Kirk F. Vollmecke was announced as the incoming MICC commanding general. Vollmecke is presently the director for contracting at the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology.

Headquartered at Fort Sam Houston, the MICC is made up of seven Mission Contracting Centers, nine Mission Contracting Offices and 27 Installation Contracting Offices throughout the United States. Each office is responsible for supporting the generating force by translating its customers' requirements into contracted good and services. It functions as a line of operations to plan, award and administer contracts that provide the best possible value for Soldiers and their family members. In fiscal 2011, the command executed more than 63,000 contract actions worth almost $7 billion.
