FORT LEE, Va. (Oct. 27, 2011)-The Combined Arms Support Command hosted its fiscal 2011 Commanding General's Retention Awards Luncheon Tuesday at the Lee Club.

Before the luncheon, Sgt. Maj. David Reynolds, CASCOM command career counselor, thanked everyone for attending.

"I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for this wonderful turnout to help recognize the successful units, leaders and NCOs who were the tips of the spear for this success," said Reynolds. "2011 was a great year for retention - particularly for the reenlistment side."

Reynolds said taking care of Soldiers and their families is vital to retention and CASCOM has proven itself capable on that front.

"I've always been a firm believer that quality Soldiers will reenlist because of quality leadership," said Reynolds. "In my mind, command involvement equals retention success. I've always believed that if we take care of the Soldiers and their families, retention will take care of itself. I think that fact is very evident in the entire CASCOM footprint."

Maj. Gen. James L. Hodge, CASCOM commanding general, said he appreciated all the work of his retention noncommissioned officers.

"It's really an honor to be standing in front of you today - the key members of the Army's retention team - and it's definitely an honor to be able to congratulate and recognize this wonderful team," he said. "Thanks to each of you - you've retained and sustained quality Soldiers, representing America's best. "

He also said great leadership ensures retention success.

"It's amazing to sit back and see the leadership and the quality of people we have in this command," said Hodge.

He and Command Sgt. Maj. C.C. Jenkins Jr., CASCOM CSM, presented the awards during the ceremony after the luncheon.
