Lt. Gen. Susan Lawrence, Army Chief Information Officer/G-6, presented a level-three knowledge management award to U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command's chief knowledge officer, or CKO, during the LandWarNet 2011 conference held recently in Tampa, Fla.

TRADOC CKO Joe Oebbecke, accepted the award on behalf of TRADOC, which was the only major command to win one of the six awards presented by the Army CIO during the three-day conference in August.

Oebbecke attributed TRADOC's award to the coordination and collaboration of the command's major subordinate organizations as well as the knowledge management efforts of the command's centers of excellence.

"With championing of the knowledge management program, TRADOC organizations have been successful with implementation of knowledge processes that have gained efficiencies across the organization," Oebbecke said.

During the conference, the TRADOC chief knowledge officer also hosted an Army Knowledge Management Track, which consisted of six 75-minute sessions, which were led by representatives from U.S. Army Forces Command, Army Materiel Command and TRADOC organizations. The purpose of the sessions was to provide conference attendees with a better understanding of Army knowledge management initiatives, the benefits of knowledge management and how tools can be used to enhance senior leader decision making.

More than 600 people attended the conference in Tampa, and more than 200 attended the conference online from locations throughout the world including Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea and the United States.
