Name: Staff Sgt. Carlos Lugo

Hometown: Bronx, N.Y.

Occupation: Infantryman, 11B / Military Police 31B - Counter IED instructor

Unit: 2nd Battalion, 310th Regiment, 174th Infantry Brigade

How do you support the 1AE mission?

I am a trainer/mentor on the C-IED lane. I take my job seriously and have fun doing it. If you engage the trainees, coach them through the injects and scenarios, they grasp the concepts better. By no means are they going to be C-IED subject matter experts when they've completed training, but I can assure you they will be better familiar with the potential threats and how to positively identify them and react accordingly. Having the opportunity to train service members heading over is a real honor. I try to make it informative, as well as fun and keep the trainees engaged.

Why do you serve?

"It's my duty, it's who I am."
