Hundreds of Soldiers and civilians placed more than 9,000 flags after participating in a 9/11 memorial walk sponsored by Army Sustainment Command at Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. The Sept. 8 event began at dawn, with marchers clutching bundles of American flags, each representing a life lost in the 9/11 attacks and the ensuing war on terrorism. Later in the day, a "Twin Towers Memorial" was unveiled, with the small flags forming a backdrop of red, white and blue.
