Fort Drum officials encourage community to make voices heard

FORT DRUM, N.Y. -- Post leadership is encouraging the community to attend the upcoming Fort Drum information town hall meeting, which will resume at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14 at the Commons.

The quarterly meeting allows Soldiers and Family Members to learn up-to-date information about events, policies and community concerns, according to Elizabeth DeJesus Cintron, who is responsible for customer relationship management at the Plans, Analysis and Integration Office.

After post agency representatives present briefings, those in attendance are encouraged to ask questions about anything from medical care to housing to new policies.

"The second portion of the event involves an open-mic question-and-answer forum with the installation's leadership to answer questions and concerns affecting individuals' quality of life," DeJesus Cintron said. "If an individual is unable to attend, there are a variety of ways to still participate," she continued. "Our Fort Drum Facebook page is one of the newest ways to participate in our Fort Drum information town hall meetings."

Because many Family Members don't live on post or can't attend town hall meetings, the post command staff wants to make sure as many people as possible can participate, said Katie Wright, Fort Drum's social media specialist.

"The town hall meetings are a great way for Fort Drum to get out important information that impacts our Soldiers, Family Members and civilians and also provide a chance to get feedback from the community," she said. "Using our Facebook page to take questions from those who can't attend just makes sense and allows us to get information out to people who need it."

In the days leading up to the meeting, Wright will post a "note" on the Facebook page to allow Soldiers, Family Members and civilians to submit any questions they would like addressed at the meeting.

"The questions will be passed on to Fort Drum's command staff and the panel of subject-matter experts who will be attending the town hall meeting," Wright explained.

On the day of the Fort Drum information town hall meeting, Wright will post the answers to all the questions on Facebook in real time.
