Thurman recognizes 35th ADA Brigade Soldiers

OSAN AIR BASE, South Korea - Gen. James D. Thurman, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea, recognized 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade Soldiers for their accomplishments here Aug. 17.

"I would like to thank each and every Soldier and the noncommissioned officers who have worked hard to make the units perform to standard," said Thurman. "The noncommissioned officers are the backbone of the Army and their strong leadership skills continue to make the military function properly."

He encouraged the Soldiers to continue their professional development and civilian education, motivating them to utilize the military educational benefits, in order to pursue their goals toward a degree.

Spc. Jefrey Nacar of 6-52nd Air Missile Defense Battalion said he was honored to see Thurman.

"It is a good feeling to be recognized for something you have worked so hard to achieve," Nacar said. "It is definitely something to be proud of."

"Gen. Thurman's visit is a major event for the Air Defense community, and it is a great feeling to know he is willing to learn more about our functions and the many capabilities we bring to the forefront of the battlefield," said Master Sergeant Ronald Williams of 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade.

During Thurman's visit to Osan Air Base, he observed how Air Defense Soldiers use high-tech, state-of-the-art missile systems with long-range target and tracking capabilities to engage enemy tactical ballistic missiles and aircraft that threaten critical assets in the Korean theater of operations.

"General Thurman clearly understands the importance of Air and Missile Defense to his overall mission. Although short, the visit allowed the brigade leadership to highlight some key operational initiatives currently ongoing within the brigade," said Col. Eric L. Sanchez, 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade commander. "The highlight of the day was watching our great Soldiers receive recognition for their hard work and dedication to the mission."
