CFC kickoff set for early September

FORT BENNING, Ga. - The Combined Federal Campaign will kick off its annual campaign Sept. 7.

CFC, the largest and most successful fundraising program in the world, gives federal employees the opportunity to improve the quality of life of others by donating to charities of their choice. According to the CFC website, millions of dollars are raised annually to support eligible nonprofit organizations.

The CFC hosts about 2,500 charities " local, national and international, said Laura Walker, CFC manager. Walker said there are about 110 local charities that could benefit from CFC donations.

Federal employees can expect to see office campaigns through Nov. 11. Employees are able to donate using cash or check, but can also have amounts deducted from their paycheck each month.

In 2010, CFC raised more than $880,000. And in 2009, they raised more than $1.1 million " it was the first time the CFC raised more then $1 million.

"The goal is always and will always be 100 percent quality contact that everyone gets an opportunity to donate," Walker said. "We don't have a monetary goal, but I really look forward to the campaign growing because of the addition of the Armor School."

Walker said the CFC gave people an opportunity to donate to the charities they are passionate about with minimum effort.

"One dollar or five dollars can make a significant difference and putting it all together makes a significant donation," she said.

The kickoff luncheon for commanders and command sergeant's major will be Sept. 7 at the Benning Conference Center. Major Gen. Robert Brown, MCOE and Fort Benning's commanding general, will be a guest speaker.

"It should be fun this year " it's the 50th anniversary of the CFC so we're throwing it like a 50th birthday," Walker said.
