Spotlight On...Master Sgt. Richard Vokes

Master Sgt. Richard A. Vokes is a contracting officer under the construction branch with the U.S. Central Command - Contracting Command stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan.

His job there is to solicit, award and administer construction requirements for the U.S. and Afghan National Security Forces.

A member of the California Army National Guard, Vokes boasts a master electrician license from Michigan and is a contracting NCO for Detachment 1, Joint Forces Headquarters at the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office for the State of California.

As a civilian, he is employed as an estimator and project manager for Apex Electric in Las Vegas, Nev.

Vokes' hopes and aspirations include finishing his bachelors degree in business administration in April 2012.

A resident of San Luis Obispo, Calif., the outdoorsman enjoys his spare time fishing, hunting and swimming in his spare time with his wife and son.

And when asked how does his job support the Soldier, he quickly responds.

"My job," he said, "provides Soldiers with the facilities needed to continue their particular operations throughout the area of Afghanistan."
