Recycling made easy at Hunter Army Airfield

FORT STEWART, Ga. - It is just as easy to recycle on Hunter as it is on Fort Stewart.

The Hunter Recycling Convenience Centers, which are available to use 24-hours, are located at the Post Exchange parking lot and at the intersection of Georgia Hussars Street and Cook Boulevard. These convenient centers are for the local community as well as all housing residents and on-post activities.

Cardboard and commingled recyclables are accepted at both recycling convenience centers. Commingled recyclables include mixed office paper, newspaper, magazines, telephone books, #1, #2, and #5 plastics, steel cans, aluminum cans, and clear, brown and green glass.

To help save money and reduce waste, the Environmental Office is encouraging everyone to go bag-less when possible. Remember all recycled paper must be secured in clear plastic bags. All bottles, cans, and jugs should be rinsed with caps and lids removed. By rinsing containers, this will help to reduce contamination of recyclables and assist in preventing pests and vermin.

Hunter’s Recycling Center is located at Trailer 727 off North Perimeter Road, approximately three fourths mile from the intersection of Stephen Douglas.

All pallets and wood to include old personal furniture must be carried to the Recycling Center. Pallets must be separated from regular wood and old furniture.

Scrap metal and personal electronic items must be turned into the Recycling Center. Televisions are not accepted.

All government electronic equipment or property must be turned into the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office at Fort Stewart.

Refrigerators and air conditioners can only be accepted at the recycling center with a signed slip of approval obtained from TFW, stating all freon has been drained.

Nine volt batteries and smaller batteries are also accepted.

All aerosol cans, paint cans, and vehicle batteries must be carried to the Hazardous Waste Yard at Hunter located directly behind the Recycling Center.

Military tires must be transported to the Hazardous Waste Yard at Fort Stewart.

Remember, the convenience centers are provided for your convenience to make recycling easy for everyone. While recycling, we need to keep in mind that good housekeeping practices are a must to ensure we remain in compliance. Please do not leave any items unattended outside the recycling convenience centers, the recycling center or the hazardous waste yard.

The easier recycling is, the more likelihood for increased participation. Everyone’s support is needed to meet our solid waste diversion goals and to sustain our natural resources. As always, your support is appreciated.
