Since 1943, ARNEWS has been the Army's premier print wire service with the daily mission of telling the service's story to its internal audiences worldwide. The general public is also a tertiary audience that can now view articles on Army.mil. But the target audience remains the 6 million Soldiers, Family members, retirees, reserve-component troops, civilian employees and contractors worldwide who traditionally read the stories in their command newspapers.

CONVERGENCE MEDIA: AFN stations historically have used ARNEWS articles as readers on their radio newscasts and for story ideas on the TV news. Now ARNEWS partners with Soldiers Broadcasting on a daily basis to provide synergy on covering Army-wide news.

COVERAGE: ARNEWS reporters focus on covering strategic communications initiatives at Department of the Army headquarters. This includes new policy, pay and benefits, new equipment and new programs emphasized by Army leadership. Coverage of major operations and exercises is primarily based on submissions from the field.

FOCUS: Some of the strategic communications issues of recent focus include:

  • Modernization
  • Multi-Domain Battle
  • Gender Integration
  • Soldier for Life
  • Individual Readiness
  • Army Cyber Way Ahead
  • Globally Engaged -- Support to Combatant Commanders

SUBMISSION TOPICS: Articles submitted to ARNEWS should impact the majority of Soldiers or the greater Army Family worldwide. Local or regional news should not be submitted to ARNEWS. Stand-alone photographs and slide shows are seldom used by the news service. Examples of topics that should be submitted include: major exercises and operations, pilot programs and new equipment arriving in the field.

SUBMISSION FORMAT: Articles should be in MS Word and photographs should be at least 200 dpi at 3X5 inches (600 pixels tall by 1,000 pixels wide). While there is no length requirement for ARNEWS submissions, articles should be succinct and tight, yet comprehensive. AP style should be followed.

WAYS TO SUBMIT: Articles should be emailed to arnews.dma@mail.mil. Articles submitted through the CORE should be directed only to DMA with the ARNEWS box checked. Articles should be submitted the same week as an event. Timeliness is a key element.
